Police Say Man Was Driving With Woman Hanging Out of Car

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Police said officers saw a Connecticut man driving with a female passenger hanging out of his car window on Maple Avenue around 4 a.m. Saturday. Officers charged Aly Hanafi, 30, with driving while intoxicated.

When the car reached Waller Avenue, police said, the 28-year-old Stamford, Conn. woman sitting on the open window began yelling at someone across the street. Officers pulled the car over once it reached Dekalb Avenue.

Hanafi, of Cheshire, Conn., initially told officers he had not been drinking that night, police said. After being asked a second time, Hanafi said he had “a couple” of alcoholic beverages but thought he was able to drive, according to police reports.

Police said that when Hanafi got out of the car to take sobriety tests, he had to lean on the car for support. Police reports indicate he failed sobriety tests on the road and opted not to take a chemical test to reveal his blood alcohol content level at headquarters.

Hanafi was released on $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court next on Dec. 21.
