Ponderosa Air President Jan Nerud, 68, was the pilot. He said that while no one was hurt in the incident, the plane was totaled after sliding roughly 2,000 feet on its belly after reaching the runway at 125 mph.

Nerud said the flight was used to give the other person on board, an experienced pilot, experience and familiarization with the equipment to take over flights in the future, according to lohud.com.

The FAA said it took place around 4 p.m. on Monday and afterwards a runway was closed for investigation. Ponderosa Air is based at Republic Airport, according to lohud.com.
