One Of New York's Longest-Serving Inmates Is In Westchester

Four of the 50 longest tenured inmates in New York are incarcerated in the Hudson Valley.

Some of the longest-serving inmates in the New York State prison system are among the criminals currently housed in correctional facilities in the Hudson Valley.

Among the 50 longest serving inmates in prison in New York, three are currently incarcerated at the Fishkill Correctional Facility in Dutchess County, with another at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining.

Inmate Fred Watson was convicted of three counts of murder and four counts of robbery in 1976, leading to a sentence of between 45 years to life in state prison. In 1975, inmate John Ruzas was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, robbery and conspiracy for his role in an incident, leading to a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Inmate Edward McDuffy was convicted of murder in 1970 and also sentenced to between 25 years to life in prison.

All three men remain in custody at the East Fishkill Correctional Facility.

Carl Macedonio was arrested and convicted of manslaughter and two counts of rape in 1972 and sentenced to a term of 25 years to life in state prison. He is currently incarcerated at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.

According to officials, the 50 longest serving inmates are all male, and the prison population in New York is 99.5 percent male.
