Ferrari began studying violin at the Music Conservatory of Westchester, on 216 Central Ave. in White Plains, at the age of five. To raise money, she performed for commuters at the North White Plains train station.

“She raised the money under her own motivation,” said Tammy Ferrari, Christina’s mother, who accompanied her daughter on the 6 a.m. fund-raising trips to the Metro-North station. “She felt committed to raise money for the school because it’s helped nurture her love of music.”

Ferrari also performed in Performathon, a day-long showcase of the Conservatory’s youth and adult students. More than 200 performed in total, raising another $6,000.

“Performathon was a huge success; a real celebration of everything our school stands for,” said Jean Newton, executive director for the Conservatory. “Our students’ and faculty’s dedication, hard work, and love of music were on full display that day. As for Christina’s efforts, it served as an inspiration and made the event all the more special.”

The Conservatory raised an additional $3,000 through Kickstarter.com, an online fund-raising platform for creative projects. Now, it will install digital recording equipment in the school’s Recital Hall, which will cost more than $10,000, according to a news release.

When the equipment is installed it will allow students to record their performances and learn from them, allow older students to make college audition tapes and artists and, the Conservatory hopes it will attract artists and bands to record demos.

“The Recital Hall is a beautiful space with terrific acoustics, and it’s really crying out for recording capability,” Newton said. “Well over 150 events take place in the hall each year, and we want to document each and every one of them.”
