Jury Hands Out Felony Indictment for White Plains Homicide Suspect

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Yonkers bus driver accused of fatally shooting a White Plains mother whose body was found March 21 near her 4-month-old daughter has been indicted on a felony charge by a grand jury, a district attorney prosecutor announced Monday.

Michael Saunders, 49, was scheduled to appear in a felony hearing Monday. However, the grand jury's actions halted the hearing at White Plains City Court.  David Gove, the attorney representing Saunders, said he didn't have enough information to comment on the proceedings.

The Westchester District Attorney's office would not disclose what felony charge the jury voted on, however, Saunders has previously been arraigned on a felony second-degree murder charge.

Police believe Saunders is the father of the dehydrated 4-month-old found near the slain body of her mother Sabrina Durrah, 35. Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said the Liberty Line bus driver had a family in Yonkers and described the fatal shots fired at Durrah's head and chest as a "domestic incident."

The child, Jayme, was left alone with the body for at least a day, police said. She was treated for dehydration and released to her mother's relatives.

Neighbors said Durrah, a former home health care aid, was known as an adoring mother who took her baby on daily walks.
