Former FBI cold case investigator Brad Garrett has been working with the family to get to the bottom of what happened to the 20-year-old when she disappeared in Bloomington, Indiana in 2011. Spierer was a student at Indiana University.

The developments in the case were chronicled Friday night on a special report by ABC-TV's "20/20," showcasing some of the theories of Garrett and his team including one tip that leads to an inmate at Indiana State Prison.

Corey Hamersley was arrested a year after Spierer's disappearance and in "20/20" reported that another inmate claims Hamersely told him that Spierer overdosed at a house party and students dumped her body in the Ohio River, according to News 12 Westchester.
