Greenburgh Doctor Sued In Joan Rivers Death Faced Earlier Malpractice Suit

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Dr. Renuka Bankulla, the Greenburgh resident and lead anesthesiologist in Joan Rivers' fatal procedure, settled a previous malpractice lawsuit in 2005 for $4 million, according to the New York Daily News.

According to the report, Bankulla was sued for her involvement in a case in the Bronx where a mother died in childbirth while undergoing a C-section.

Bankulla and Bronx Lebanon Hospital settled the lawsuit in 2005 for $4 million: $1 million to the estate of the mother, Consuelo Martinez, and $3 million to her son, Erik, the paper reported.

Rivers, a Larchmont native, died from complications during a procedure that was designed to evaluate her stomach and reflux issues
