Breaking News: Black Ice Advisory Issued For Melting Snow Refreezing

FASNY Environmental Impact Open To Public Comment

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Public comments are being accepted for the French-American School of New York’s draft environmental impact statement for a proposed new campus at the former Ridgeway Golf Club.

The White Plains Common Council authorized the issuance of a “notice of completion” at its meeting Monday, which opens the public-comment period on the environmental impact statement.

The council scheduled a public hearing for 7 p.m. Sept. 19. The public hearing will not be finished, but adjourned to Oct. 17. Written comments will be received through 5 p.m. on Oct. 29, and can be directed to the city clerk at City Hall, 255 Main St.

The school applied for a special permit from the city to operate at the former golf club at 400 Ridgeway Ave. and hopes it will be approved by the end of 2012. If that happens, the school would begin a 10-year, $60 million to $80 million construction of its new campus. If approved, all 870 students from its three current schools in Mamaroneck, Larchmont and Scarsdale would be brought together to one location, said Patrick Croze, director of finance and operations for the French-American School .

A copy of the draft environmental impact statement is available for public review at the White Plains Public Library and can be found online .

The school submitted its preliminary draft environmental impact statement to the city in April, and a revised statement on May 10. The city's departments of Planning, Building, Public Safety, Public Works, Traffic and Law, as well as outside counsel Steven Silverberg, determined that the statement, at that time, wasn't complete for reasons listed in the FASNY Preliminary Draft Environmental Impact Statement Completeness Review (pages 51-57).
