Farmers Market Donates Leftover Produce In White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – After the White Plains Farmers Market closes every Wednesday at 4 p.m. about five farmers donate their leftover produce to the White Plains Youth Bureau, which in turn gives it to the Ecumenical Food Pantry of White Plains, according to a news release by the city.

The Youth Bureau, which also donates food to the Ecumenical Food Pantry through its Green Project, picks up the leftover produce after the market closes and takes it to the food pantry the next day.

At 3 p.m. Wednesday, Mayor Thomas Roach, Lorraine Buonocunto of the Ecumenical Food Pantry, the Youth Bureau and the Recreation and Parks Department will acknowledge the market's contribution.

The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Nov. 21, said Pascal Bensidoun, whose father, grandfather and great-grandfather managed open-air markets in their native Paris.
