White Plains Jlcw Members Discuss Modern Day Slavery

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Women from Eastchester, Greenburgh, Scarsdale, and White Plains that are part of the Junior League of Central Westchester came together to participate in a legislative breakfast discussing human trafficking.

Members of the JLCW partnered with its sister leagues of Westchester County at Greenburgh Town Hall to host the breakfast, which was held in light of recent news reports on human trafficking arrests and prosecutions both in the county and state.

Richard Lui, an anchor for MSNBC moderated a panel of nationally renowned experts that was led by Assemblymember Amy Paulin (D-88). The panel detailed and discussed the issue of modern day slavery with those in attendance. Topics included sexually exploited youth, initiatives to combat trafficking and challenges to law enforcement efforts and victim services.

Lauren Wyler Smith, the president of the JLCW, said that the topic of modern day slavery is something that needs to be addressed by the public more often.

“The issue of human trafficking is something that needs more attention,” she said. “The JLCW was so proud to be a part of this breakfast, which helped bring this issue to light in our community.”
