Murphy, who went missing on Dec. 26, was found on Wednesday near Frog Rock Road. The woodle had run away from his dog walker while his leash was still attached in the Betsy Sluder Nature Preserve.

The dog was found through the help of Nicole Asher of Norwalk-based Buddah Dog Rescue and Recovery. Asher was able to pinpoint where Murphy was and set up a humane trap to find him.

"We could see him sitting on a porch," Justine Gaeta said. "I sat at the end of the driveway and called his name. He didn't move."

The trap was set up and Gaeta went into town. Right as she left, she found out Murphy had been safety trapped. She was warned Murphy might not recognize her right away. After 20 minutes, Murphy was able to recognize her, and the reunion began.

"We saw him wagging his tail, and he was pawing," Gaeta said. "There were a ton of tears and the hugest amount of relief."

Gaeta said Murphy is fine, though he was exhausted after his ordeal and had an upset stomach.

"I am never going to take him for granted," Gaeta said. "He won't be off the leash for a long time. He was excited to see everybody and just lie down.

Gaeta said she was also happy that the dog walker won't have to live with the guilt of losing Murphy. She also said she appreciated Armonk residents who worked to help her find Murphy.

"It's such a great dog community," Gaeta said. "They put themselves in my shoes, and it's not shoes you want to be in."
