The annual taste test is part of National Drinking Water Week and takes place 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in front of the Michaelian Office Building on 148 Martine Ave. There are nine participating Westchester water suppliers in this year’s contest. They are:
- Briarcliff Manor Village
- Cortlandt Consolidated Water District
- Elmsford Village
- City of Mount Vernon
- City of Peekskill
- Scarsdale Village
- United Water New Rochelle
- City of White Plains
- City of Yonkers.
Cortlandt Consolidated Water District received the most votes last year, edging out Greenburgh Consolidated Water District #1 by five votes. Elmsford came in third.
“This yearly drinking water contest is a fun way to draw attention to the excellent quality of our public water supply,” Dr. Sherlita Amler, commissioner of health for Westchester County, said in a statement. “It’s also a good time to recognize the local, county and state professionals who monitor our public water systems and ensure all our drinking water is safe.”
Past winners include United Water New Rochelle in 2011 and 2005, Ossining in 2010, Yonkers in 2009, 2007, 2004 and 2003, and Croton on Hudson in 2008 and 2006
