Dina Lohan Holds Casting Calls in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Reality television hopefuls auditioned in White Plains for “DramaMamas” featuring Dina Lohan, a program that shows the behind-the-scenes happenings from casting to taping of stage moms.

Lohan, mother of actress Lindsay Lohan, will serve as the celebrity mentor. Having been through the process with her daughter, Lohan said she understands what the people auditioning are going through.

“This show is true to my heart,” Lohan said at the Digital Arts Experience Saturday morning in White Plains. “I was a dancer in the business before I had children. I had cousins who were dancers to. I drove Lindsay all over Long Island when she was a kid. She just lit up and loved it.”

Linda Sawyer, executive producer of “DramaMamas,” said the show is meant to establish an identity for the moms, adding they are misunderstood. Having been a “Drama Mama” herself with her children, Sawyer said people don’t see the behind-the-scenes workings or how tough it is to balance one’s children with a career.

“I think a lot of time these women are classified as crazy managers who live through their kids when in fact we are here to tell our children to follow their dreams and passion,” Sawyer said. “We want our kids to find balance and be happy.”

Lohan said she was not a “mom-ager” when Lindsay was growing up, adding that with four kids she had to balance her daughter’s acting career with her son’s sports games. Lohan said she told her children it is not about how much money you make but the fact that they are doing something they love.

“It helps to solidify you as a human being if you are enjoying what you are doing,” Lohan said. “Sometimes when you take a hit it pushes you to another level and gives you strength and humility. You just have to be the best you can be. That was instilled in me by my parents and I taught my kids that.”

Having come to White Plains a lot as a child, Lohan said being back for casting calls in the city feels like coming home to her.

“I feel like I’m coming full circle,” Lohan said. “I had people say it’s odd to come to this place when I could have gone to Broadway but I feel safe here. It’s like coming home to my family.”
