WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Westchester County confirmed a White Plains man arrested in a melee at Cabo Lounge was indeed a county employee, as he told officers at the scene.
Leron Sowells earns a salary of $55,030 as a heavy motor equipment operator for the county's public works department. He was arrested Aug. 7 after police spotted him arguing with a woman. Sowells was arraigned Thursday and charged with one count of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and one count of disorderly conduct. His next court date is Sept. 22.
According to police reports, Sowells, 32, shoved a female attendee six times outside of the Mamaroneck Avenue nightclub. Police who restrained Sowells said he swung his arms near an officer's head when he was told he was under arrest.
After Sowells was restrained on the ground, a crowd of nearly 30 clubbers attempted to stop the arrest, forcing police to bring in more than 20 officers to complete the arrest.
Police never learned how Sowells knew the woman with whom he was arguing. However, police said they did receive an apology from Sowells, who, according to police reports, told an officer, Im sorry, man. If I tried to hit you or whatever, I didnt mean that. I work for the county."
