WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The sight of so many police vehicles in one place is usually cause for alarm, but on Thursday, it was for celebration of the county's services.

The Westchester County Center, in White Plains, was the venue for the county's Shared Services Expo, where several municipal departments, such as county police, public safety, sanitation, water quality and environmental services set up booths to talk with public officials and residents of Westchester about the quality of shared services in the county.

Several divisions of county police were present, including marine, S.W.A.T, and K-9 units, along with their state-of-the-art equipment.

The tagline of the expo, hosted by County Executive Rob Astorino, was "Together We Save," referring to the money saved by streamlining and consolidating in the shared services initiative.

"This is a great opportunity for people of all layers of government, because we all face the same challenges, to not do more with less, but do more with what we already have," Astorino said in his address. ("What we already have is on display (here) and more."

A video was shown to the attendees, featuring several local figures including Mark Fang, executive director of the county's Human Rights Commission; William Hayes, police chief of Bedford, Lee Roberts, supervisor of the town of Bedford; Terrance Ray, Mount Vernon police commissioner; and Michael Grace, Yorktown supervisor.

In the video, each official explained how they represent a fundamental part of the shared service program.

Astorino told The Daily Voice, " We have a lot of inter-municipality agreements on both sides to help us save money. This is an ongoing thing, not a once a year expo. We need to do more with what we already have."
