WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – There will be lane restrictions for up to two months on Main Street in White Plains between E. J. Conroy Drive and Broadway due to the construction of a motel.
Cambria Sweets is expected to open by the end of the summer and will have two floors of retail and a motel, Mayor Thomas Roach said.
“It’s going to be a great fit and right smack in the downtown, which will generate business for retailers and restaurants,” Roach said.
Before it opens, drivers can expect lane closures on Main Street as the crane finishes the building, being constructed directly across from Wal-Mart. This week, workers excavated the street to install the underground utilities for the new building. This is expected to continue for at least one month, Karen Pasquale, of the Mayor’s office said.

I am sure this is an inconvenience but how exciting that White Plains is getting a new hotel! It is encouraging that new businesses feel so positive and upbeat about coming to the city. Cabria Suites will open in the fall.
I have found this construction area to be a terrible mess. The pedestrian walking area is very dangerous and I have had to complain to the city numerous times about it. I think the old A&P should have been converted to a parking lot a long time ago. There are plenty of empty buildings around the city where the hotel could have been put without causing all the traffic problems. I really doubt they will finish on time and it is now going on two years.
