WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The Playland Amusement Park boardwalk will soon feature a children’s museum after the Westchester County Board of Legislators signed a 10-year lease with Westchester Children’s Museum on Thursday.
The board unanimously approved the lease agreement in 2011. Westchester Children’s will Museum pay $1 a year in rent to use 21,390 square feet, or about half of the old men's bathhouse, which was built in 1928. In exchange, the museum will invest $6,441,300 to renovate the interior and exterior of the building before moving in and give all parking fees to the county.
Chairman Ken Jenkins (D - Yonkers) signed the lease with Ira Greenstein, board president of the museum. Jenkins said the lease agreement is, “an important part of a vision of Playland being a year-round attraction that will boost revenues and reduce costs.”
The museum has two years to open or the lease will be nullified.
