Charges Announced in White Plains Metro-North Assault

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday a Mount Vernon man has been found guilty of two felony assaults after a jury found him guilty of bashing a man with a metal garbage can at the White Plains Metro-North Station.

Robert France, 50, was convicted of one count each of first-degree assault and second-degree assault. His sentencing is scheduled for April 26th. France faces up to 25 years in prison.

France began arguing with a man who he believed had his cell phone at the train station just before 3 a.m. April 12, according to the district attorney's office. He then picked up a large garbage can and repeatedly struck the victim, sending him to the White Plains Hospital and then Westchester Medical Center with a broken leg and other injuries. The victim needed seven screws inserted into his leg and required stitches on his left hand and face.
