WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains will be celebrating its 100th anniversary on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.

In recognition of the milestone, the White Plains Historical Society presented Mayor Thomas Roach with a ceremonial gavel used by the city’s first mayor, Ffarington M. Thompson, at the first Common Council meeting on Jan. 1, 1916.

The gavel will remain on loan to the city during the centennial year.
