WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The enormous basket of flowers that had gladdened the hearts of passing motorists for 20 years has been plucked from its spot on a traffic island in White Plains, according to a report by The Examiner News .
The wooden planter, maintained by the White Plains Beautification Foundation, was struck by a car recently and will have to be replaced, The Examiner News said.
It was 18 feet long and 9 feet wide and had been installed in 1996 at the top of Armory Place at an initial cost of $18,000, The Examiner New s reported.
It is expected to be rebuilt with insurance money and the two folks hurt in the accident are recovering, The Examiner News said.
