Wife of Ex-White Plains Mayor Delfino Dies at 77

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A funeral service will be held on Wednesday for Elvira A. Delfino, the wife of former White Plains Mayor Joseph Delfino. She died on Nov. 20 at White Plains Hospital, a week before her 78th birthday, following a long illness.

Delfino was born on Nov. 27, 1933 in Elmsford to Paul and Emily Trapp and spent most of her life in White Plains. After graduating from Alexander Hamilton High School, she worked for many years as an administrator at several Westchester corporate headquarters.

In 1953, she married former Mayor of White Plains, Joseph Delfino. Said to be a great support to her husband during his work for White Plains, Father Christopher W. Monturo of St. Anthony of Padua Church described her as the "private servant" to her husband's role as "public servant" of White Plains in a blog entry yesterday.

Known by her family for her kindness and gentle spirit, Delfino was also an accomplished floral arranger and sought to bring joy to others through her crafts.

She is survived by her husband, her son Joseph Delfino and her daughter Cynthia (John) Rubino.

Friends and family may call from 3 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home in Plains. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m., at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Harrison, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02441.
