WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Valvoline Instant Oil Change service center manager, Pat Demosthene understands that getting the job done right is imperative-even when that means working under the hood during a heat wave.
When I interviewed the staffer at the company's White Plains location on a sweltering 90 degree afternoon, it was clear his daily challenges include more than overseeing oil changes and fluid maintenance.
Even on a hot day like Tuesday's, it's Demosthene's job to make sure service is delivered quickly, accurately and with a smile. And that's also the case when customers are cranky and pressed for time.
"A lot of people who come in are on their [one-hour] lunch breaks and don't have a lot of time," he said. This can be especially tough when five to six cars come in for service in a 10-minute period.
But with the ability to keep cool under pressure, the team knows how to handle it.
It helps that Demosthene is no stranger to the world of car service. Having worked first as a technician and then assistant manager during his 17-year career (he previously worked at Expressway at the same location) he has become an expert in dealing with all kinds of situations.
It's clear that working on various angles of the business has trained him for the tasks he handles now.
