White Plains Welcomes Warm Streak at Parks

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Ann Umstead joined other White Plains residents emerging from a winter hibernation Thursday by enjoying 55 degree weather at local parks.

Umstead 69, took her 4-year-old grandson Gavin Townsend to enjoy the warm weather at Gillie Park near her home.

"We were waiting for this good weather. It's fabulous. I can't wait for spring, even thought it's been a wonderful winter," said Umstead. "This is the first time we've been here since fall."

Temperatures stretching toward the mid-50s helped bring a dozen others to Gillie Park. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a relatively warm streak with temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees Friday, 45 degrees Saturday, 42 degrees Sunday, 47 degrees Monday and 49 degrees Tuesday. White Plains can expect as much as a quarter inch of rainfall Friday and then a series of sunny skies.

Jane Stabile, a Kingston, N.Y. resident visiting family, said the White Plains weather was at least five degrees warmer than temperatures by her house.

"I'm always excited about spring. As soon as it gets warm, I get happy. It never comes too soon," said Stabile, while playing with her grandchildren at Gillie Park. "Bring it on."
