Rotary Club President Heather Miller, Ricca Kelly, and White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, toured the kitchen as guests arrived to dine on the three-course meal featuring filet mignon, wild sockeye salmon and Belgian Chocolate or red velvet cake.
"We were delighted to present an evening of extraordinary hospitality," said Miller, "But more importantly, we raised $5,000 in funds for Lifting Up Westchester to provide meals for the homeless in the future.
"The face of the homeless has changed and none of us is immune," Miller said. Despite the fact that Westchester County residents have the highest per capita income in New York State, there is a significant homeless population. Shelters house more than 804 residents on any given night and soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters feed more than 200,000 County residents annually. So we wanted to shine a light on this extraordinary problem right here in our backyard and to support the homeless."
Peter Kelly and his team from Xaviars Restaurant Group transformed Grace’s Kitchen into a formal dining room with candlelight and fresh flowers. Business representatives, government leaders and Rotary Club members served as wait staff, hosts and kitchen helpers.
Several Westchester County businesses and individuals donated funds for the event, including New-York Presbyterian Hospital, White Plains Hospital, Bart's Auto Shop, New York State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Cuddy & Feder, Mary Beth Morrissey, Esq. as well as Rotary Club members. White Plains Bakery, Whole Foods, Fischer & Miller, Inc. and Shoprite supplied food, while Ned Kelly provided decorations, Joseph Richard Florals colorful bouquets and guitarist Nick from Lagond Music School in Elmsford entertained.
