Miriam Martinez has a simple goal for her White Plains restaurant, Milonga Wine and Tapas : to serve people great wine and food while giving back to the local community.
Thats why she distributes gift certificates to fund local organizations like the White Plains Police Department, the White Plains Beautification Foundation and the Greenburgh Public Library.
They are other local businesses too and we have to support each other in any way we can, Martinez said.
The local resident says it was always her dream to open up a restaurant. And it is clear from the way she lights up when asked about certain dishes on the menu that her passion for food is palpable.
From the dinner list, Martinez urges people to try the parillada" which is a combination of Angus strip steak, sausage, yucca potatoes and chimichurri sauce. She also suggests the "linguine frutta di mare," a plate of mixed seafood, scallops, shrimp, tilapia and calamari in a chipotle cognac sauce. In the three years since Milonga opened, these cultural classics have locals coming back for more.
I enjoy seeing people eating a good dish and drinking good wine. Its exciting to see the place packed on Friday and Saturday nights, Martinez said.
Milonga Wine and Tapas is located at 577 N. Broadway in White Plains. This summer, Martinez is set to open a second location on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains.
