White Plains Mom, Manya Gussack, Honored Sunday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Manya Gussack of White Plains died Feb. 9 in hospice care at the home of her daughter, Lisa. She was 87.

She was born Nov. 6, 1924 in Bronx, N.Y. to Isidore and Esther Kanof. She married Seymour Gussack in March 1947 and they had five children by the time they moved to New Rochelle in 1960. A devoted mother, she could be found in the kitchen in a flurry of activity and surrounded by her children and their friends.

Gussack had a special connection with Cape Cod and brought her family there in the summer of 1959. Her family continues to spend summer vacations there, at a family house nicknamed "The Hive" in Eastham, Mass. She also had the opportunity to travel extensively with her husband's international business as well as with her friend Belle.

She is survived by her children Amy, Lisa, Faith, Nina and David and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday at her daughter Lisa's home in White Plains. Shiva will begin Sunday and continue through Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. daily at Lisa's home, with Minyan at 7:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under Ballard-Durand Funeral Home .
