White Plains Christmas Tree Sale Helps Kids, Charities

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Early Childhood Center at Memorial United Methodist Church off Bryant Avenue is teaching more than the basic preschool curriculum this holiday season. It's teaching its students, ranging in age from 2-5 years, the importance of sharing and giving to those in need.

To kick off the holiday season, the ECC preschool families have teamed up with members of the Memorial United Methodist Church for the congregation's annual Christmas tree sale in an effort to raise money for charities. The preschool is helping to sell trees to raise money for a family in the Part of the Solution program, a charity they choose to support this season. The preschool will use funds from the tree sale to buy winter clothing and toys for two young girls of a single-parent family.

The Christmas tree sale, on the front lawn of Memorial United Methodist, 250 Bryant Ave., is open this weekend on Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from noon-6 p.m. Proceeds from the tree sale will also support other local charities. For more information, visit http://www.memorial4all.org.

In the spirit of giving, ECC also supported the Miracle League of Westchester's Holiday Event. With donated gifts, the preschool helped to provide a small "shop" where disabled children could choose a holiday gift to give to their parents. The event was huge success.

"Teaching children at a young age to give to those who are less fortunate is a lifelong lesson in being a caring and compassionate person, and we are happy to help nurture and support these valuable lessons at ECC", says Margaret Rowan, director of the the Early Childhood Center.
