What's Happening in White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Several movie screenings at the library, a Common Council budget meeting, and a free green business workshop are just some of the events planned in White Plains this week:

Monday

? The library's Galaxy Hall will screen "Mr. Popper's Penguins" for families with young children from 2 to 3:45 p.m.

? The library will hold an English conversation group for adults speaking English as a second language from 2 to 3 p.m.

? Addie Diaz will lead a salsa dancing class for teens at the library from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

? Anyone 16 or older is welcome to attend a drop-in GED test preparation class at the library from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

? The Common Council will meet with the Budget and Management Advisory Committee to run through the budget overview and discuss fee increases at 6 p.m. in City Hall.

? The Design Review Board will convene in City Hall at 7 p.m. to review an application for 432 Mamaroneck Co. LLC to renew the special permit that allows it to share a parking lot at 442 to 452 Mamaroneck Ave. with CVS and Citi Bank. The board will also discuss proposed waterproofing and other repairs at the Tiffany Towers on Doyer Avenue and a plan to put a "Maracas Bar" sign up at 60 E. Post Road. The full agenda is online.

Tuesday

? The library's Trove will have a "bunny hop" song, game and story session for 2- to 3-year-olds with adult accompaniment. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. programs.

? "Dolphin Tale," a movie that documents a friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost, will be shown at the library's Galaxy Hall from 2 to 3:45 p.m.

? Addie Diaz will lead a salsa dancing class for teens at the library from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Wednesday

? The Women's Enterprise Development Center is offering a free workshop for small business owners interested in capitalizing on consumers' preferences to buy green products, sometimes at a higher cost. "Green Values: Leveraging Your Business as a Social Change Agent" will feature Sharon Rowe, CEO of Eco-Bags Products, and Jean Hamerman, founder and president of NeighborGreen. Entrepreneurs should register before the 6 to 8 p.m. seminar, which will be in the Lobby Board Room at 1133 Westchester Ave.

? Westchester S.C.O.R.E. will give a free 1 p.m. workshop on how to obtain financing for small business owners and entrepreneurs at the 120 Bloomingdale Road Department of Labor building.

? Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to a "Hooray for the Library" story time at the library Trove. Tickets will be given out a half-hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. readings.

? Families with 2- to 5-year-olds are invited to wear their pajamas, bring stuffed animals and enjoy a snack and "Dance With Me" story at the Library's "pajamarama" at 7 p.m.

Thursday

? The library Trove will show Disney's "The Lion King" for children and their families from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

? The library will hold an English conversation group for adults speaking English as a second language from 2 to 3 p.m.

? Addie Diaz will lead a salsa dancing class for teens at the library from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

? Kindergardeners through fourth-graders are invited to a "Lucky Goldfish" craft and collage session at the library. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the 4 to 5 p.m. event.

Friday

? The American Red Cross of Westchester will hold a blood drive and organ donor registry in memory of Joseph Acocella Jr. at its 160 N. Broadway location from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.

? The library will host a "Concentration" memory game contest for first through sixth-graders from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Pizza and prizes will be included.
