In addition, WHA members contributed $560, which will enable Food Bank for Westchester to purchase more than $2,000 in additional food. During the last four years, the WHA has focused its charitable work exclusively with the Food Bank.

“It is important to our members as a part of this community to reach out to those in need and give back, especially during this time of year,” said David Leftwich, who organizes the food drive and serves as both vice president and chair of the community relations committee of the WHA. Leftwich is general manager of The IBM Learning Center in Armonk. For the last seven years, the WHA has supported the Food Bank with an annual Thanksgiving food drive. In addition to the food drive, WHA gathers 40 to 50 volunteers on a quarterly basis to work at the Food Bank to assist with packing more than seven million pounds of food annually distributed. As an example, in one two-hour shift the WHA repacked one ton of food into two-pound portions, plus 274 bags for the Children’s Back Pack Program.

“Our industry is closely associated with providing food to people and working with Food Bank for Westchester is consistent with that,” said Dan Conte, president of the Westchester Hotel Association and general manager of the Westchester Marriott. “We are pleased to assist the Food Bank throughout the year, but Thanksgiving is especially rewarding as our members join together to support this vital organization.” Some WHA members incorporate volunteering at the Food Bank as part of their own team building events. These members include Doral Arrowwood, IBM Learning Center, Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center and the Citibank Sanford I. Weill Center for Strategy and Executive Development
