The kickoff event began at 11 a.m. at the YMCA of White Plains at 250 Mamaroneck Ave. The first phone connection was established in the very spot 65 years ago.

Paul and Jane Schwarz co-founded the Volunteer Service Bureau Inc. in 1949. The couple will attend the event and discuss Paul’s mother’s vision and mission to support nonprofits throughout Westchester.

Guest speakers will include Mark Rollins, recipient of the first Legacy Award; Volunteer New York’s director, Alisa H. Kesten; and more.

After the kickoff, local community leaders can look forward to a hand delivered cupcake from LuLu’s Cake Bakery.

Many recipients can and will celebrate virtually by using #VNY65 or connecting on Twitter @volunteerNYnow.
