Wolk, a White Plains resident who previously lived in Armonk, volunteers at the Burns as part of its "See Hear Feel Film" program.

In the program, kids work together and do different activities based on what they've seen.

"It's a very valuable program," Wolk said. "The children come from under-served schools from all over Westchester."

In the program, children learn about moving images and the differences between books and movies. After they watch a movie, kids break up into groups and do projects.

Wolk remembers one project where one boy helped another boy, Ramos, who did speak English, make a storyboard.

"He was able to learn and he had a huge smile on his face," Wolk said. "Everyone was so happy and willing to help each other. Things like that happen all the time."

Wolk said she tells the kids that it's impossible to make a mistake when they are doing their storyboards.

"Write whatever's inside of you," Wolk said. "We want you to present it and show what gives you feeling."

Having been a volunteer at the Burns for three years, Wolk said she never leaves without a smile on her face and said she is very appreciative of her fellow volunteers.

"It wouldn't work without them," Wolk said.

Wolk first heard of the program as a regular attendee of the Jacob Burns.

"I saw they needed volunteers and I called the number," Wolk said. "I went to the training program and enjoyed it. It's been very rewarding for me."

A retiree, Wolk said volunteering at the Burns is a wonderful way to spend her time.

"I love giving back to the community," Wolk said. "The Burns provides everything, including the popcorn. That's one of the biggest hits with the children. Volunteering for the Burns has been so great. It's a really good thing to do."
