WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Dave Stanghellini, staff educator at Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester, recently led a service volunteer trip to China with partner company America World Adoption to provide health care assessments and education for children and their caregivers in a provincial orphanage in China.
Stanghellini raised money for the trip through a church fundraiser and contributions of more than 4,000 pairs of shoes donated by churches, schools and his colleagues at VNSW.
The nonprofit organization Funds2Orgs provided 40 cents per pound for the shoes that were shipped to micro businesses in developing countries and distributed to those in need.
“The children I served were so precious and the people at the orphanage were extremely gracious," said Stanghellini, reflecting on his trip. "It was a very fulfilling trip and there are lots of good things happening at the orphanage after our visit.”
