Renovated YWCA Homes Available in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The YWCA White Plains and Central Westchester announced Monday that 193 apartments fresh from a two-year, green renovation project are available for rent.

The historic Tudor elements of the 69 N. Broadway Residence for Women were preserved during the $25 million remodeling project. The White Plains apartments now feature new roofs, terraces, more energy-efficient heating systems and new elevators.

Maria Imperial, CEO of the local YWCA, said the newly opened units remain the only permanent, affordable housing development for low-income women in the region.

"Our mission is to empower women and help them get on the path to self-sufficiency. They, in turn, become contributing members of society which benefits and strengthens our community," Imperial said in a statement. "Residents can now enjoy a new energy-efficient facility, featuring sustainable materials, along with enhanced on-site case management, health and wellness programming and other supportive services.”

The YWCA's Residence for Women provides social services for women who were victims of domestic violence and women with disabilities, medical illnesses or substance abuse problems. Case management, medical treatment and employment and educational resources are included in residents' $499 monthly rent.

Women 18 or older who earn no more than $37,800 are invited to fill out an application for the N. Broadway homes.
