BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Designer store Ralph Lauren has donated more than 1,200 dresses to Bronxville-based charity Operation PROM, according to a news release.
Volunteers sorted through more than 145 boxes of donated dresses that will be distributed to the national chapters of Operation PROM for the 2014 prom season.
Operation PROM is partnering with Maizie Consignment Boutique in Scarsdale to sell some of the dresses.
Operation PROM was founded by Yonkers resident Noel D'Allacco in 2005 to "help low-income students attend their proms by providing free prom dresses and tuxedo rentals," according to the organization's website.
The organization primarily assists students who are sick, homeless or live in shelters and do not have family to assist them. To date, Operation PROM has helped thousands of students attend their prom at little or no cost.
To request a free prom dress, students must be recommended by their guidance counselor and meet the requirements, such as a severe financial need, and the student should have a passing grade in all classes.
