NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. Hundreds gathered Thursday morning to celebrate and honor the life of Tyler Madoff at a memorial service in New Rochelles Glen Island Harbour Club.
The pain will not go away, but we will move forward, said Tylers father, Michael who addressed the gatherers with wife Marianne, son Dylan, and daughter Mykaela. We are still a family of five. We will always be a family of five."
The White Plains teen, and Scarsdale student, was swept into the Pacific Ocean July 4 during a hiking and kayaking trip in Hawaii. His body has not been found.
Tyler, 15, was a member of the Pelham Community Rowing Association, which has a boathouse in Glen Island Park. He was also a member of the Scarsdale High School football team.
Tylers crew coach Guy Monseair compared Tylers spirit to the amount of supporters who came out to remember the teen-ager.
Tylers spirit will live on and will live on forever, said Monseair. He also told the crowd about how the crew team came together and won its first club championship against four-time champion after hearing the news about Tyler.
Tylers chemistry teacher Nelson DaSilva, English teacher Rachel Warshowsky and cousin Dante Moussapour also spoke about the type of person they knew Tyler as, and how happy or strong he made them feel when he was around them.
