Former White Plains Police Lt. Minella Dies at 93

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Clyde L. Minella, 93, of Craryville, N.Y., died April 16. 

A White Plains native, Minella was a former lieutenant for the White Plains Police Department. 

He was born Feb. 26, 1919, in White Plains, to the late Joseph and Hilda Hayes Minella. Minella married Edith Callaghan in 1938 and served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the police department for 26 years, retiring in 1972. 

Minella was a member of the Westchester County Police Anchor Club, a life member of the White Plains Knights of Columbus and past president of the White Plains Police Benevolent Association. He also served as president of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Mount. Carmel Church for many years. 

Minella was a life member of the Craryville Fire Department and former president and life member of the Craryville Gun Club. He also had a love for carpentry and was an avid hunter. 

He is survived by a son, Louis C. Minella, of Scarsdale; two daughters, Hilda (Nicholas) Ruffalo, of Eastchester, and Claudia (George) Hoffman, of Craryville; two brothers, Ralph Minella and Joseph Minella; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith, in 2003.

The family will receive vistors from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in White Plains. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
