Edelman, White Plains Internist, Dies at 83

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Dr. Jerry Edelman of White Plains died Dec. 1. He was 83.

Born July 31, 1928 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Samuel and Gussie Edelman. A resident of White Plains, he taught at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y. and Bronx V.A. Hospital.

As well as former chief of medicine, Edelman also served as president of staff at United Hospital in Port Chester. He held a private practice in Mamaroneck for 35 years.

Edelman served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, where he was the personal physician for Syngman Rhee, the first president of South Korea. An accomplished clarinetist, Edelman enjoyed woodworking, fishing and boating at his second home in Tolland, Mass.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Riva Kline, his children Laurie (Thomas) Kyzivat, Jeffrey (Ming-Ming) and Hai (Fang-Tao), his sisters Jean Damashek and Rita (Bernard) Blutfield and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at The Chapel in the Woods at Congregation Kol-Ami in White Plains. Interment will follow at Sharon Gardens at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
