Celebrate Rosh Hashanah In White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The celebration of the Jewish new year, known as Rosh Hashanah, began Wednesday at sundown and ends on Friday.

The holiday welcomes the new year with prayer, sweet foods and religious custom, and casts out the trangressions of the previous year.

Several services being held around White Plains to commemorate the holiday.

Congregation Kol Ami - 252 Soundview Ave.

Main services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 9 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. A family service will be held at 3:15 p.m.

On Friday there will be a main service at 10 a.m.

Bet Am Shalom Synagogue - 295 Soundview Ave.

There will be main services held on Thursday and Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Temple Israel Center - 280 Old Mamaroneck Rd.

On Thursday and Friday there will be main services held at 8:15 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. Children's services will be held at 10 a.m.

Woodlands Community Temple - 50 Worthington Rd.

On Thursday there will be a main service at 10 a.m. with family services at 2:30 and 3 p.m.

On Friday there will be a main service at 10 a.m.
