Aqua Cycling takes Spinning on land to a whole new level.  Aqua cycling places stationary bikes underwater at waist level, allowing you to pedal against the resistance of the water, creating a significantly better workout.  Scientific studies have shown that exercising in the water provides more benefits than land, and it easier on the joints and muscles.  Aqua cycling is a great new exercise option for all ages and fitness levels, those with medical conditions, is safe for pregnant women and can assist with injury rehabilitation.

You don’t have to know how to swim to participate, but you must be comfortable in shallow water.  Aqua Cycling burns twice the calories as a regular cycling class, results in no soreness due to the water friction massaging your legs during your entire water workout, increases blood flow and circulation, and is impact free on all your joints.  It reduces stress, builds strength while toning your body, and unlike cycling on land, allows a full body workout.  All you need is a swimsuit, a positive attitude and a full or program membership to the YMCA to participate.  Complimentary classes are often available.

Aqua Cycling is one of 16 aquatics programs offered at the White Plains YMCA, with students from 16 to 70 years.   For further information about Aqua Cycling and the Y aquatics program, please contact Aquatics Director Eric Hammermeister at ehammermeister@ymca-cnw.org or 914-949-8030 x211.  Classes fill up quickly, so don’t delay.
