White Plains Singer To Release EP, Finds Pitch Writing Perfect

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – On top of plans to release an EP in the fall, to be followed by a full album in 2015, White Plains artist Jessica Antonette, who goes by J. Antonette, is trying to get her songs placed on television and film and writing music for mainstream artists.

Jessica Antonette, 26, has lived in White Plains since she was 18, shortly after graduating from college.

Since moving to White Plains from a small town outside Utica at the age of 18, Antonette, now 26, has put out an album, released several songs and created three music videos. Antonette said she is also focusing on pitch writing for other artists and has freelanced at a few Manhattan studios.

“I get to write in different genres for different artists and I’m in the scene, and it’s just very fulfilling,” she said, adding that the experience has helped her expand as a songwriter. “I can express myself, but someone else sings it, which is pretty neat.”

Antonette recently submitted a track to Beluga Heights, a record label that has worked with Rhianna, Jason Derulo and other mainstream artists.

As for her original work, she is in talks with indy labels and management companies for a full album, as well as to have her music placed in commercials and television shows.

“I see myself continuing to be a songwriter and get tons of music placed and hopefully pitch songs for really mainstream artists,” she said. “And I hope I have a successful album of my own that takes off.

“I don’t need to be famous. I don’t need to have that kind of notoriety. But, I want to be successful and respected and I think that I’m gaining that from all my hard work.”

The last song Antonette released was “Trigger,” which received more than 25,000 views in less than 24 hours. She said it will be on the EP, which is yet to be titled, along with an unreleased song titled “Medicate,” among others.

“Trigger” may be next up for a music video, following "Who I Am," for which Antonette dressed like a “crazy lunatic superhero” seeking revenge on her cheating fiancé. She helped direct, cast and do wardrobe for the laugh-out-loud music video, shot last summer in White Plains.

“People thought I was insane because no one knew what I was doing,” she said, mid chuckle. “I’m in a cape and people are looking at me like I need to be in a mental hospital. It’s great.”

While Antonette said she is a songwriter first, it goes hand-in-hand with performing her original songs.

"Who doesn’t like to be a rock star and be on stage and rock out?

"I’m just very happy with where I am now and where I’m going," she said.
