White Plains Programs Offer Tools For Success

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Young adults and teens in White Plains can learn and improve basic skills that will better prepare them for future success in the workplace and their personal lives through two Youth Bureau programs offered this fall.

Residents between the ages of 18 and 24 can sign up for an office-skills training course that begins Oct. 29. The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through Dec. 5, and will teach participants the fundamentals of phone and office etiquette, customer service and professionalism.

For those 12 to 15 years old, the Blue Nile Rights of Passage Program offers mentoring and curriculum geared toward building self-confidence and self-worth. The program is open to African-American boys and girls and will engage them in public speaking, time management, conflict resolution, mass-media analysis, nutritional guidance, spiritual grounding, African-American history, community consciousness, economic awareness and government.

The program is a nationally recognized manhood and womanhood training program dedicated to the spiritual, cultural, and moral character development of America's youth with a focus on youth of African descent.

To register for either program, contact Frank Williams, executive director of the Youth Bureau, by email or call 914-422-1378 ext. 2105. The deadline to register is Oct. 22.
