WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains Hospital and White Plains Library have teamed up to present a free wellness roundtable series at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of each month.

All events wil be at White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

A rundown of events is below.

The Art of Communication: Join Victoria Assumma, LCSW-R and ACSW, as she helps identify techniques to communicate more effectively in stressful situations on Thursday.

Breast Cancer: Myths vs. Facts: Join Danielle Gagner, PA-C, White Plains Hospital’s Breast Cancer Clinical Navigator, as she goes beyond the headlines and discusses the most common myths and facts about breast cancer risk, diagnosis and screening on Thursday, April 2.

Time is Brain: Stroke Signs & Symptoms: Join Maggie Crilly, RN as she teaches you about the signs & symptoms of a stroke and critical prevention tips. Be aware, be in control on Thursday, May 7. Stroke is the third-leading cause of death in the United States and one of the leading causes of long-term disability. Stroke refers to the acute neurological impairment that follows an interruption in blood supply to a specific region of the brain. Time is brain. For every minute a stroke is left untreated, an estimated 1.9 million neurons are destroyed. Each hour in which treatment fails to occur, the brain loses as many neurons as it does in almost 3.6 years of normal aging. The sooner treatment is started, the smaller the area of permanent damage will be and the better the quality of life the patient will have.

To register for any event, call 914-681-1119.
