The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through mid-November. It is run by Pascal Bensidoun, whose father, grandfather and great-grandfather managed open-air markets in their native Paris.

"In Paris, public markets are synonymous with French culture and style, as expressed through fresh food and drink, flowers, clothing, arts and crafts and jewelry sold by local vendors in open air," according to the Bensidoun website.

Pascal's father, Rolland, brought him and his brother Sebastian into the family business, and they now contract with more than 80 markets in Paris. In the last 10 years, they have expanded to Chicago, Stamford and New York. The White Plains market has been operating since 2004.

"I enjoy it. It's fresh, entrepreneurial and it's nice to have it," said Charles Katz, a White Plains resident who has shopped at the market in past years.

Vendors from upstate New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania bring an assortment of fresh produce, plants, home baked goods, breads and prepared food. The city encourages residents to shop at the Farmers Market to support the network of local farmers and, in turn, the regional economy.
