WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A tree will be planted at White Plains High School on Arbor Day Friday in memory of Robert J. Thornton Jr.
Thorton was the father of Barbara Vrooman, the former president of the White Plains Beautification Foundation, which will present the tree to the school. High school Principal Ellen Doherty will accept the tree as part of the Arbor Day celebration.
The high school choir will perform, in addition to members of the Songwriters Club, Advocates for the Earth, and others.
City officials Wayne Bass, recreation department commissioner, and Bud Nicoletti, public works commissioner, will also participate in the event.
