The City Center, a Kite Realty property, in White Plains, facilitated by its neighbor ArtsWestchester, seeks designs for a suspended sculptural installation in the City Center’s four-story atrium. A second Request for Proposals is open for a mural on a newly-exposed wall in the renovated Mamaroneck Avenue lobby.

“This is an incredible opportunity for artists. Rarely are there commissions of this scale or prominence for new works of art in such a highly visible public venue," said Janet Langsam, chief executive director, ArtsWestchester

The public art project is a key component of an overall renovation initiative that will refresh the City Center’s façade and interior, distinguishing the center as a community gathering space and Westchester destination.

The commissioned artworks will activate empty airspace, engage visitors, and provide the site with a contemporary aesthetic.

Artists are encouraged to let their imagination soar. Equal consideration will be given to work in all media including, but not limited to: ceramics, papers, plastics, metals, lighting, and fibers. Artwork may be kinetic and/or interactive, but should take the space usage and dimension requirements into consideration.

The winning artist or collective for the atrium project will have a budget of up to $100,000 to bring their vision to life. Finalists for the atrium project will be furnished with a stipend to produce a maquette of their proposed work. Artists designing a mural or wall piece for the Mamaroneck Avenue lobby will have a budget of up to $20,000.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and must live or work in the Hudson Valley region of New York, including New York City (all 5 boroughs), Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster and Sullivan Counties.

All applications must be submitted online. Guidelines, more detailed information, and the applications are available on ArtsWestchester’s website.

The deadline for all proposals (atrium and mural projects) is April 25, 2016, by 11:59PM. For more information go to www.artsw.org/CityCenter.
