WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Westchester County kicked off a campaign Tuesday, Jan. 5, to educate people about the best steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino announced the initiative as a "great way to help residents keep their New Year's resolutions to stay active and lead healthier lives," according to a statement from the county.

The program, called the Keep Healthy campaign, will bring professionals from the county Health Department to five locations owned by the Crunch, Club Fit and 24 Hour Fitness health clubs, according to the statement. The events will take place on Tuesdays throughout January.

Among the services offered by the Health Department will be free flu shots and blood pressure screenings. The county also will offer wellness tips and literature while each health club will provide free guest passes and giveaways.

"The Keep Healthy campaign accomplishes three things," Astorino said, "it gets free health services and information to residents, it promotes healthy living and it supports local businesses."

Dr. Sherlita Amler, the county's health commissioner, said the initiative is aimed at adults between the ages of 18 and 50.

"Keeping healthy is all about the choices we make, both large and small," Amler said. "The decision to get a flu shot or take your blood pressure can be the first step to a healthier you."

  • Jan. 12 at Crunch , 24 Waterfront Place, Port Chester. 12 - 2 p.m.
  • Jan. 12 at Crunch , 1 North Broadway, White Plains. 4 - 7 p.m.
