WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Westchester Jewish Community Services offers a variety of programs this June and July through its Jewish Spiritual Healing Center. The following events will be held:
A Legacy of Values: Writing Your Ethical Will Monday, June 3 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. $18 suggested donation
Pass on the essential truths you have learned in your lifetime and learn the history of ethical wills, read some classic examples, and begin to write your own. Rabbi Pamela Wax will review your ethical will with you in a second, private session.
Caring for Yourself While Caring for Another: Caregiver Support Mondays, June 17 and 24 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. $36 suggested donation
The demands on a family caregiver’s body, mind and spirit can be overwhelming. You may find yourself feeling irritable, angry or guilty and not finding time for self-care. Come share your experience in a supportive group of other caregivers. We will discuss role identity, lack of control, expectations and self-care, among other topics. Co-facilitated by Nicki Weiss, LMSW, and Rabbi Pamela Wax The Empty Place: For Those Mourning the Death of a Spouse Mondays, June 17, 24, and July 8, 15, 22 6:30 to 8 p.m. $72 to $118, sliding scale suggested donation
It takes time to fully absorb the impact of a major loss. Share your loss with the support of others, discussing how to find strength and rebuild one’s identity as a single person, how to navigate family and social complications, and how to embrace life again. Jewish spiritual resources will be offered for the mourner’s journey. Co-facilitated by Jane Slevin, MFT, and Rabbi Pamela Wax.
Pathways through the Psalms Mondays, June 17 and 24 12:30 to 2 p.m. $18 suggested donation, free for C2C clients
The spiritually and emotionally uplifting thoughts of the Psalms are potentially life-transforming. We will explore how to use Psalms in times of darkness and distress and look at different translations to ascertain how translation can affect the message of a Psalm. Facilitated by Rabbi Pamela Wax.
