The League for Innovation in Community College named Westchester Community College's Coaching Connection Program as a 2017 Innovation of the Year winner. The Coaching Connection Program provides a personal connection with students and supports them through graduation and beyond. "This award honors the dedication, commitment, and excellent work of our faculty and staff on behalf of student success at the college," said President Belinda Miles of Westchester Community College.

Established more than 30 years ago, the Innovation of the Year competition was created as a way to recognize innovations at colleges across the country. The award highlights faculty, staff, and administrators who have created innovative programs, practices, partnerships, policies and activities that improve the institution’s ability to serve students and the community.

Through the College's Coaching Connection Program, coaches help students by referring them to academic support services and follow up with them to ensure they receive individualized support. "The coaches work with faculty and staff to ensure students are getting all the support they need when they seek guidance," said Miles.

Graduating two of its largest classes since 1946 over the last two years, Westchester Community College is growing its curriculum and reaching further into communities. “Our Coaching Connection Program is one of several initiatives that connect students with necessary services to help them make progress through the curriculum and graduate on time," said Miles. "Our goal is to be a true partner with our students as they fulfill their academic journey here at the college.”
