RYE, N.Y. – The Rye YMCA is hosting LIVESTRONG Day on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at the Rye YMCA,21 Locust Ave., Rye.

Acupuncture with Kathy Casey, Licensed Acupuncturist

In this workshop, participants will learn about acupuncture as an Asian medicine. Participants will also have an opportunity to experience acupuncture as an adjunctive therapy for stress relief, symptom management and wellness support. 3:45-4:30 p.m. and 4:45-5:30 p.m.

Self Care Through Healing Touch with registered nurse Nina Yoder, healing touch international practitioner apprentice and registered nurse Roberta Brown Brugo, licensed massage therapist and certified healing touch practitioner

Explore the relaxing and calming benefits of  nurturing energy therapy. Learn how a gentle heart-centered touch can aid in your self-care.  3:45-4:30 p.m.

What’s In Your Food with Wendy Baruchowitz, health and integrative nutrition counselor

Learn about the healthiest foods for cancer prevention, foods to avoid, foods that are unsafe and the risks of refined sugars and contaminated produce. This workshop will also provide quick and easy healthy meal recipes and a discussion on understanding portion sizes, as well as making the best food choices to sustain a healthy lifestyle. 3:45-4:30 p.m.

Relaxing Rhythms with Joyce Garofalo, relaxation modalities practitioner, oncology nurse & support group facilitator

A workshop which provides participants the opportunity to relax, laugh and reduce stress and anxiety through imagery and creativity, using gentle body movements to a variety of rhythms. 4:45-5:30 p.m.

Tips For Healthy Eating and Grocery Shopping with Greta Breskin, registered dietitian from the ShopRite of New Rochelle

Experience a “Virtual” Supermarket Tour providing the tips and tricks for healthy grocery shopping. 4:45-5:30 p.m.

Introduction To MyoFascial Release with Maureen Mccloskey, Physical therapist

MyoFascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the MyoFascial connective tissue restrictions of the body to eliminate pain and restore motion. Come and learn, in-depth, what happens to the body when the fascia become restricted and ways to prevent and eliminate this by using specific self-treatment MFR techniques with inflatable balls, tennis balls and foam rollers.  5:45-6:15 p.m.

"Why Fear Wedgies When We're Already Naked?" with Keynote Speaker Patty Chang Anker, author of “Some Nerve: Lessons Learned While Becoming Brave” Celebrate survivors, supporters and the power of community to transform ourselves and each other. 6:15 p.m.
