Strong Women Take Center Stage In New Book By Westchester Author

If anyone had asked Falguni Kothari what she wanted to be when she was growing up in Mumbai, she'd never in a million years have said, "an author."

"I abhored writing...at least, the school version of it," writes the Scarsdale resident on her website.

The mother of two, who's also an award-winning Indian Classical, Latin and Ballroom dancer, admits she always loved stories, especially the ones her grandmother would tell her about women of legend: Women who'd broken the shackles of time, place and culture; women who respected and loved men who respected and loved them in turn.

Needless to say, the stories made an impression on her and -- long story short -- she's since published four books, all flavored by her South Asian heritage and expat experiences.

Her new novel, "My Last Love Story," boldly challenges society's conventions about love, relationships and "till death do us part" as it weaves a tale of a fate-battered woman.

You can get copies of the book -- three days ahead of its official launch date -- on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Eastchester.

Kothari will be on hand -- along with free cookies provided by her publisher, Harlequin/Graydon House, to discuss the story and personalize copies.

The event is free and open to the public. "My Last Love Story" officially launches Tuesday, Jan. 23. Go to www.falgunikothari.com/ for more information.
